Album Cover

For my album cover design of Cry by Cigarettes After Sex, I aimed to visually express the deep sense of loneliness and sadness that the music evokes. The image conveys a quiet, emotional space—something that many listeners can relate to on a personal level. I wanted the cover to feel intimate and still, yet heavy with emotion.

To create the artwork, I started with an image of a person standing near a cliff—an isolated figure in a vast, empty space. I added a rain effect to enhance the atmosphere of melancholy and used the band’s signature font to stay true to their identity. To deepen the mood, I cast a dark shadow around the edges of the image and added a black border to give it a finished, cinematic look.

What I’m most proud of is how something visually simple can still be powerful. The minimalism lets the mood speak louder than any detail-heavy design might have, and I believe that subtlety allows for a stronger emotional connection.

If I could revisit the design, I’d experiment with the direction of the rain—seeing how changing its angle could shift the emotional tone or add a different kind of tension or softness to the piece.

Overall, the cover captures what the album feels like: quietly emotional, reflective, and beautifully sad.
