Cartoon Character

In creating this illustration of Bubble Bass from SpongeBob SquarePants, I employed a combination of organic and geometric shapes to bring the character to life. The majority of the shapes I used were organic, reflecting the soft, flowing contours of Bubble Bass's body and features. These fluid shapes helped capture the character's playful and exaggerated form. However, I incorporated geometric shapes in his glasses, using clean lines and precise angles to contrast with the more natural curves of his figure.

My process began by tracing the outline of the character, focusing first on the basic shape and skin color as the fill, with black used for the stroke. I then gradually added details and features, working carefully and methodically. Throughout the process, I focused on maintaining organization, particularly in managing layers within Adobe Illustrator. This allowed me to approach each part of the illustration with clarity and control.

I hope my audience notices the time and effort that goes into creating art, and that beauty often emerges from patience and precision. One aspect I am particularly proud of is how well I organized my layers, which made the entire process more efficient and seamless.
Original Character

For this artwork, I’ve mashed up two iconic characters—Pompompurin from Sanrio and a Minion—to create a unique, fun design. The concept behind this fusion was to combine the adorable, yellow charm of Pompompurin with the playful, quirky essence of a Minion. I chose this mash-up because I believed it would be cute to dress a familiar yellow character as a Minion, blending two beloved personalities into one delightful figure.

To bring this vision to life, I outlined the full shape of Pompompurin first and then added the distinctive features of a Minion, such as its clothing and goggles. The majority of the shapes I used were organic, reflecting the natural and rounded structure of Pompompurin, while the only geometric shapes in the design appear in the outline of the eyes, adding a subtle contrast to the soft curves.

I worked primarily in Adobe Illustrator, utilizing the pen tool for clean outlines and the eyedropper tool to ensure precision in color matching. These tools allowed me to create a sharp, cohesive design while maintaining the integrity of both characters’ unique features.

Ultimately, I hope my audience notices how this mash-up not only creates a visually engaging character but also sparks creativity. By blending elements from two different characters, I want to highlight how combining contrasting designs can lead to unexpected and exciting artistic outcomes.
